Lately, there’s been a frenzy over cannabidiol (aka CBD). But there are a lotta fish swimming in the CBD sea. 🐠🐠🐠
And this makes it hard AF to reel in quality products from reputable brands.
Plus, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) doesn’t guarantee much of anything when it comes to CBD products. That means it’s your job to figure out which brands are A-OK and which ones you should stay away from.
So what’s the deal with Zatural? We took a look at the brand’s rep, transparency, and best products to help you decide if it’s worth your hard-earned cash. Here’s our review of the Zatural CBD brand.
Pros and cons of Zatural
Pros
- Pretty transparent. When it comes to how its products are made, Zatural is basically as clear as the acetate sheet you slip onto an overhead projector (a moment of silence for this ancient relic of school days past).
- Good variety of products. Zatural has a wide range of product offerings, and everything is pretty affordable.
- Positive customer feedback. Customers are generally pretty happy with what they get from Zatural.
- Convenient return policy. You’ve got 60 days to return a product if it doesn’t work for you or suit your needs.
Cons
- Organic or not organic? The brand says it uses organic hemp, but we weren’t able to confirm this.
- COA discrepancies. Some of Zatural’s products have discrepancies between the potency on the certificate of analysis (COA) and the product description.
- Testing limitations. Zatural tests only its CBD oil, not the final products, for contaminants.
Terms to know
Here’s the lowdown on some common CBD lingo:
- Cannabinoids are all the compounds found in the cannabis plant. Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and CBD are just two of many cannabis plant goodies.
- Isolate products contain only CBD and nothing else. Zilch, zip, nada.
- Broad-spectrum CBD products have all the cannabis plant compounds except THC.
- Full-spectrum products contain everything from the cannabis plant, including teeny-tiny amounts of THC (no more than 0.3 percent).
- Terpenes are aromatic compounds that give the cannabis plant its earthy aroma.
- Flavonoids are plant chemicals found in the cannabis plant (and most fruit and veg) that have antioxidant properties.

- $$ = $30–$60
- $$$ = over $60
Zatural Full-Spectrum CBD Softgels
- Price: $–$$$
- CBD type: full-spectrum
- Potency: 25 milligrams (mg) per softgel, available in 30 or 60 count
- COA: available online
Most Zatural products contain broad-spectrum CBD, but if you’re looking for full-body effects, a full-spectrum product might be a better option.
That’s because of the “entourage effect,” which suggests that all the cannabinoids, terpenes, and flavonoids in the cannabis plant work better together than individually.
This softgel is pre-dosed, an easy-peasy way to take full-spectrum CBD. You can choose a 30- or 60-count bottle — but either way, the softgels contain 25 mg of CBD.
Compared to other full-spectrum products, this one is highly affordable. There’s currently only one review, but the customer says they love the convenience of the softgel and can really tell the difference when they take it.
CBD Broad-Spectrum CBD Oil Drops
- Price: $$
- CBD type: broad-spectrum
- Potency: 1,000 mg
- COA: available online
If you want to stay away from THC, this tincture is a good choice. Broad-spectrum CBD has all the terpenes and flavonoids of full-spectrum CBD but no THC.
This is one of Zatural’s most reviewed products, and customers love it. Reviewers rave about pain relief, better sleep, and improved mental health. Score!
CBD Gummy Bears
- Price: $$–$$$
- CBD type: broad-spectrum
- Potency: 20 mg per gummy
- COA: available online
These aren’t the gummy bears of your youth (or, TBH, your adulthood — because who doesn’t love gummy bears?).
Each of these cuties is packed with 20 mg of CBD. They’re also vegan and mighty tasty. The bottles are available in a 30, 60, and 90 count.
Most customers say these are the best gummies ever and that they’re not overly sweet. But one person complains that they have a bitter aftertaste.
CBD Hot Cream
- Price: $–$$$
- CBD type: broad-spectrum
- Potency: 250, 500, 1,000, or 2,000 mg
- COA: available online
A warming sensation can sometimes help with arthritis or muscle pain. The hawt feeling basically confuses your body into forgetting about your pain.
This container of warming CBD cream is available in multiple potencies: 250, 500, 1,000, and 2,000 mg. Besides broad-spectrum CBD, the cream contains soothing ingredients like aloe leaf juice, chamomile flower oil, and eucalyptus leaf oil.
Customers say the cream smells wonderful and seriously helps relieve pain. One reviewer is disappointed that the effects didn’t last as long as they expected — but remember that any topical is designed to be a temporary solution for pain.
Zatural product quality and transparency
Zatural is pretty up-front about how it makes its CBD products.
Zatural uses a carbon dioxide extraction process to extract CBD from its (maybe organic) U.S.-grown hemp. According to some cannabis pros, this process is the “cleanest” way to extract CBD because it doesn’t involve using solvents or harsh chemicals.
The company uses Colorado-grown hemp to make all its CBD products. It claims it uses totally organic hemp. But here’s the thing: A quick peek on the USDA website reveals that Zatural isn’t listed as certified organic.
That doesn’t mean the brand isn’t using sustainable, organic farming methods — it’s just not certified. But it’s still something to keep in mind.
Zatural also says it’s compliant with current good manufacturing practices (cGMPs) put in place by the FDA, but it’s not third-party certified for that either.
The brand does its own testing and also gets an ISO 17025-compliant third-party lab to test its products. This kind of certification shows that a lab has a good track record of producing valid lab test results.
You can find the product testing info in the form of a COA linked on each product info page. You’ll also find results of tests for terpenes, heavy metals, and pesticide contaminants. When we peeked at a few of Zatural’s COAs to determine the best products, we found a few that were outdated — but we reached out to Zatural for updated labs and the company was quick to post new ones. Love that.
Zatural customer service
Reviews on the Zatural website and on third-party sites like the Better Business Bureau are mostly positive.
Customers say Zatural is giving off positive vibes for:
- top-notch customer service
- reliable shipping
- effective products
- fair pricing
The bad? A few people say that they didn’t like the taste or that the products didn’t work for them.
And while no one has anything good or bad to say about the return policy, we think it’s important to point out that Zatural has a generous 60-day return window.
How to choose a Zatural product
After taking a peek at the Zatural product lineup, you’ve prob noticed there’s a lot to choose from.
When picking a CBD product, start by asking yourself what you want it for. What kind of relief are you after?
For full-body effects that may help with stress or aid in relaxation, go for ingestible options like capsules, oils, and gummies.
For pain relief from things like arthritis or sore muscles, a topical product (like a cream, lotion, balm, or salve) is your best bet.
Here’s what else to keep in mind before pulling out your credit card:
- Dosage. If you’re new to CBD, you’ll probably want to start with a small dose. And check that the price aligns with the dose, so you know you’re not getting scammed.
- Ingredients. If you’re going topical, make sure there’s nothing in that ingredient list that will irritate your skin. Ingestibles typically have fewer ingredients, but double-check that there’s nothing in there that will trigger hives. Some CBD products will also contain other vitamins and supplements, such as melatonin, but there aren’t a ton of studies on how CBD interacts with them.
- Look for a COA. A COA from a third-party lab guarantees that a product has been tested and is safe to use. Check that the COA has contaminant levels and that the info on the COA matches what’s on the product label or info page.
How to use CBD
OK, so this depends on the type of CBD you’re buying.
But whether you’re using an oil, capsule, gummies, a cream, or a lotion, start with the smallest dose and work your way up.
And remember that it can take time for CBD to kick in. So wait a few hours before taking or applying more.
Topicals
Check the label before you start rubbing in a cream, lotion, or balm. Look for ingredients that might cause an allergic reaction. If in doubt, do a patch test on a small section of skin. If your skin turns red or starts to itch, bye-bye, CBD cream!
Most topicals will have a recommended dosage right there on the bottle, tube, or canister. Rub the product directly on the spot that hurts. For example, if your fingers are aching after a long day of typing, rub the CBD product all over the painful areas.
Pills, capsules, and gummies
Some of the same directions apply: Look at the label, follow directions, and swallow!
CBD safety and side effects
CBD products are mostly A-OK to apply to your skin or ingest. They won’t make you feel “high,” either.
With such small amounts of THC, the risk of side effects is almost zero. But there’s a small chance you’ll experience:
- tiredness
- changes in weight or appetite
- diarrhea 💩💩💩
Oh, and CBD doesn’t always play well with certain meds and supplements. So talk with your doctor before trying CBD, especially if you take a prescription drug that has a grapefruit warning. ⚠️⚠️⚠️
Another warning: Be careful when downing edibles like gummies with a high fat meal. Doing so can increase your chances of side effects.
The bottom line
Wanna go ahead and try CBD? Zatural is a fine brand to choose if you want to pop your CBD cherry — just make sure to check that the product you’re interested in has an up-to-date COA and contaminant testing and solid reviews.
It’s also a good idea to check in with your doc before adding CBD to your daily sched.
